Wanted: Books by City of Hope authors

November 28, 2011

Did you know?  The library collects books containing works by City of Hope authors.  We have a small collection now, which you can find by doing a subject search on “city of hope authors” in our catalog, and we’d like to add more.  Here’s how you can help:

  • Have you written a book or a chapter or paper in a book?  Please let us know, so we can buy a copy.
  • Do you have extra copies of a book that includes your work (or the work of a City of Hope colleague)?  Please consider donating a copy to the library.

With your help, we can collect and preserve City of Hope’s legacy of outstanding scholarship.

Results of fall 2010 user survey

November 15, 2011

At long last, we’ve analyzed the results of the fall 2010 user survey, as well as a focus group we held with students back in January.  Several themes emerged as we analyzed survey responses:

  • The collection is the top priority—especially journals and especially electronic
  • The library building looks dated and does not meet current needs
  • Many users are not aware of library resources and services—especially 24/7 and VPN access—and they would like us to provide more training and marketing.

Students who participated in the focus group also talked about the collection, mostly suggesting ways to improve access to electronic resources, but their primary focus was the library building, which does not meet their needs for suitable study space.

The survey and focus group were intended to help us as we prepare our new three-year strategic plan, a draft of which is now in progress.  A more detailed summary of survey and focus group findings is available, as is the complete (and long!) analysis of survey results.  Please let us know if you’re interested in reading them, and let us know if you have questions or comments.
