From the Archives: City of Hope historical materials part of “Jews in the Los Angeles Mosaic” exhibit at the Autry National CenterMay 31, 2013
On May 10 a new exhibit, Jews in the Los Angeles Mosaic, opened at the Autry National Center in Griffith Park. A section of the exhibit is devoted to City of Hope and features an historic image and items from the Archives collections. Items on display include a fundraising stamp and a solicitation postcard for a campaign dinner, shown below, as well as a coin bank, pin, bracelet, and solicitation tag. These items are being used to highlight the founding of City of Hope as the Los Angeles Sanatorium and its position as the first Los Angeles-based Jewish organization to have national outreach.
The Archives first started working on this project with guest curator Karen Wilson in 2007. The scope of the project evolved from just the founding of City of Hope to include the institution’s national outreach as well.
This is the first time City of Hope has contributed historical materials to an external exhibit, and it is a unique opportunity to showcase our history to a wider audience. The exhibit will run until January 5, 2014. For more information, please visit the exhibit page on the Autry web site.
