From the Archives: Miss City of Hope 1955

Archivist Susan Yates writes:

The Archives collections include photos showcasing a wide variety of activities.  This photo is of Ingabord King who was crowned “Miss City of Hope” and presented with the torch of hope on February 8, 1955.  While in the process of conducting research in City of Hope publications from the 1950s for the upcoming centennial, I learned that while the torch was long used as a symbol it was officially adopted beginning in 1957 and served to convey healing and humanitarianism.
